Low In Fat Turkey Burgers Recipe
To get that full flavor for turkey burgers we start out with lean ground turkey and add ingredients to the meat. This will give it the taste and flavor we are looking for while keeping it low in fat. We want full of flavor; about the only thing you can do with patties is add salt, pepper and maybe some other seasoning. The problem is too much sodium with all of the seasoning it would take to make it taste good. Here is a list of the following ingredients you will need to make those burgers:Ingredients:
4 Large White Mushrooms Chopped
Oil for sauteing
1 Package of Lean Ground Turkey Thawed
1 Whole Egg
1 and a half cups of plain Bread crumbs
2 tbsp of Worcestershire Sauce
1 half tsp of Garlic Powder
1 half tsp of Black Pepper
1 half tsp of Salt
1 Package of sandwich thins
The first thing that you want to do is chop the mushrooms and saute them. The reason for sauteing before hand is it avoids shrinkage and better taste. Once done let cool to the touch and set aside for later. Now add the turkey, egg bread crumbs, Worcestershire sauce seasoning and mushrooms into a mixing bowl. Mix together using your hands.
The reason we are using bread crumbs and not cut bread is because when we form the patty we don’t want large pieces of bread. This looks better and better taste. The size of the patty depends on how big you want the burger to be. The thicker the burger is the longer it takes to cook.
When all is completely cooked top with your favorite condiments and use the sandwich thins for less fat. They taste just as good. When you sit down to eat them you will notice that the mushrooms and Worcestershire sauce give it the zesty flavor we are looking for. Happy eating and cooking
Turkey Burger Nutrition Facts
The hamburger is a very popular member of the American diet. However, as many people know, a greasy, fatty, beef burger is not the wisest nutritional choice. Thankfully, there is a healthier alternative. Turkey burgers, which are made with ground turkey meat, offer an almost identical juicy taste with less fat and excellent nutritional value. As with beef burgers, nutrition in a turkey burger depends upon how the patty was prepared. When made from scratch with ground meat, it is best to begin with lean, white meat, turkey. This type of meat does not include skin, which can be quite fatty. Choosing just any ground turkey can leave you with a burger that is just as unhealthy, maybe even worse, than a beef patty. In fact, some turkey burgers can have more than 15 grams of fat alone in an average, 100g, patty.
The average, healthy turkey burger should have less than 200 calories in it. It contains 3 grams or less of saturated fat, and depending on what kind of seasonings are added, can have less than 100mg of sodium. Turkey burgers are loaded with protein and have little or no carbohydrates. In fact, an average burger can have some 20 plus grams of protein.
One downside of the turkey burger is its lack of significant vitamins and minerals. However, an average patty does have almost 10% of a person’s recommended daily iron intake. Turkey burgers are also a great source of some lesser known nutrients that are common in turkey meat. One of these is selenium. Selenium protects the thyroid and is essential for proper metabolism. Selenium is also associated with decreased cancer risk and helps to improve immune function. In a single turkey burger, roughly half of a person’s daily selenium needs can be met.
Turkey is also a good source of B vitamins, essential to proper nutrition. The top two B vitamins found in turkey burgers are niacin and vitamin B6. Both of these are important for energy production as they help convert fats, proteins, and carbohydrates into much needed fuel for the body. Additionally, niacin can help regulate blood sugar, which means more stable moods and a steadier metabolic rate. One turkey burger provides nearly a quarter of a person’s daily needs for both of these B vitamins.
Finally, turkey burgers are high in tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid that is essential to humans. It is known for its sedative properties and can help relax a person and induce better sleep.
